Sunday, March 29: The King Who Suffers

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord (Year A)

The Sunday Readings

The Theme: The Emptying

In alignment with our mission to Seek Peace, we look at the radical humility of Christ. As we enter Holy Week, we move from the external miracle of Lazarus to the internal "Radiating Truth" of the Cross. We seek the peace that surpasses understanding by witnessing a King who finds peace not in safety, but in total surrender to the Father's will.

Connecting the Word

  • The Well-Trained Tongue (Isaiah & Matthew): Isaiah describes a servant who speaks to the weary. In the "Forge" of the Passion, Jesus remains the source of peace even when silent. His "Radiating Truth" is his steadfastness in the face of the crowd.

  • The Blueprint of Humility (Philippians & Matthew): St. Paul explains the kenosis (emptying) of Christ. This is our transformative journey: learning that grace often enters through the spaces we empty of our own pride.

Pondering the Gospel

Following the example of the Blessed Mother (Luke 2:19), we are invited to "keep all these things" in our hearts as we hear the Passion. We do not just listen to a historical account; we ponder the mystery of a God who dies so we may live.

  • What part of the Passion causes my heart to stir?

  • Am I standing with Mary at the foot of the Cross, pondering the cost of my peace?

Reflection Questions

  1. Seeking Peace: In the midst of my own "Passion" or difficult work week, am I seeking a peace that is dependent on my circumstances, or am I seeking the peace that only Christ can give?

  2. Building Community: Our vision is to build a supportive community. How can I be a "Cyrenian" for someone this week, helping them carry a cross that has become too heavy?
